Nothing is developing the rumoured Nothing phone 5a for a 2027 India release, positioning it as an aggressive performance device. Targeting power users and gamers on a strict budget, this upcoming phone aims to completely disrupt the sub-Rs 30,000 segment with massive processing upgrades and a highly competitive entry price.
According to a recent leak from tipster Rakesh Chakma, the Nothing phone 5a is already in the works. This is highly surprising. If we look at the current market, the brand just officially launched the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro globally and in India on March 5, 2026.
Those recent devices brought a steep price tag. The base 8GB/128GB Phone (4a) starts at ₹31,999. The top-tier 12GB/256GB Pro model goes all the way up to ₹37,999. That is not cheap. Buyers felt the pinch. Now, early rumours suggest the upcoming Nothing phone 5a will launch around an aggressive ₹27,999.
To me, this looks like a massive course correction. Brands usually increase prices every single year. Nothing seems to be reversing that trend entirely. They want the budget crowd back. By dropping the price below Rs 30,000, they are directly attacking the core mid-range market. But a lower price means they must cut costs somewhere. Will it be the premium build or the camera sensors?
Nothing Phone 5a Specs (Rumors)
The Nothing phone 5a leaked specs are incredibly heavy on raw power. It will feature a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. But the real star here is the processor. It is predicted to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. That is a flagship-grade jump in speed. It also packs a huge 5,500 mAh battery with ultra-fast 70W to 90W charging support. For optics, we might see a triple 50MP rear camera setup.
We must compare this to the current generation to see the full strategy. The freshly launched Nothing Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro use the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset. They feature a slightly smaller 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen, but it gets blindingly bright at a peak of 4,500 nits.

The 4a series also brought a major design shift. They dropped the old circular lights for a brand new Glyph Bar on the right side featuring 63 mini-LEDs for notifications. They run Android 16 with Nothing OS 4.1 right out of the box, promising 3 years of OS updates. The upcoming Nothing phone 5a will likely keep this new software and side-glyph design, but focus heavily on beating the 4a models in pure gaming performance.
Does the new leak actually beat the current lineup? On paper, absolutely. The jump from the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 in the 4a series to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in the Nothing phone 5a is massive. It moves the phone from a good daily driver to a true gaming beast.
The charging speed also sees a big upgrade. The current Phone (4a) and Pro max out at 50W wired charging with a 5,400mAh battery. The new leak points to up to 90W charging with a 5,500mAh cell. That is nearly double the charging speed.
However, the current Phone 4a Pro has a massive advantage in optics. It features a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS, alongside an 8MP ultra-wide and 32MP front camera. I highly doubt the cheaper Nothing phone 5a will keep that expensive zoom lens. They will likely swap it out to hit that ₹27,999 price tag.
Right now, the smartphone market is incredibly crowded. The current Phone 4a series offers a stunning screen and unique notification lights, but the asking price is quite high. If you want a balanced phone today with an incredible zoom camera, the 4a Pro is a solid buy.
But if you are a heavy gamer or someone who demands raw speed under Rs 30,000, you should hold onto your cash. The leaked specs show a device that fixes the current price problem while boosting raw power. If you want flagship performance on a strict budget, it is absolutely worth waiting for the 2027 release of the Nothing phone 5a.
