Beijing, September 25, 2025 — Xiaomi officially launched its new flagship Xiaomi 17 series in China, skipping “16” in a direct challenge to contemporaries. The Xiaomi 17 series line-up includes three models — Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max — all powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and optimized with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 (based on Android 16). The company describes the event as “Five Major Upgrades” for its next generation of flagships.
While all three share core architecture, the Xiaomi 17 series differentiates them mainly through display size, camera capabilities, battery capacity, and the inclusion of a secondary “back display” on the Pro models.
Xiaomi 17 (Base Model)
The non-Pro 17 is the only one in the family without a back display. It features a 6.3-inch AMOLED main screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood lies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (3 nm) chip, paired with up to 12GB/16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB (or in some markets, 1 TB) UFS 4.1 storage (depending on variant).
For imaging, Xiaomi offers a triple 50 MP rear camera setup (main + ultrawide + telephoto) with support for 8K video at 30fps and 4K/1080p video at 30/60fps, as well as a 50 MP front sensor. Powering it is a 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery (L-shaped), with 100 W wired charging, 50 W wireless, and 22.5 W reverse wireless.
It also features IP68 water/dust resistance, as well as standard flagship connectivity, including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C, and stereo speakers.
Xiaomi 17 Pro
The Pro model retains the same 6.3-inch main display spec as the base version but adds a secondary “M10” back display embedded in the camera island. This rear screen, with a brightness rating of up to 3,500 nits, supports displaying notifications, AI wallpapers, previewing selfies using the main cameras, and “pinning” reminders.
For optics, the 17 Pro features a triple 50 MP camera system (Light Fusion 950L sensor for the main), ultrawide, and telephoto (5x optical zoom) lenses, calibrated with Leica tuning. Battery capacity is 6,300 mAh, with the same 100 W wired, 50 W wireless, and 22.5 W reverse wireless charging support. Storage and memory options here expand up to 1 TB in the highest tier.
It also features IP68 water/dust resistance, as well as standard flagship connectivity, including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C, and stereo speakers.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
Sitting at the top of the Xiaomi 17 series lineup, the Pro Max steps up to a much larger 6.9-inch AMOLED display (still 120 Hz, 3,500 nits peak). It also features the same secondary back display capabilities as the Pro.
In photography, the Pro Max enhances the periscope telephoto lens (5x optical zoom) with a larger sensor and improved f/2.6 aperture over the Pro’s telephoto (f/3.0) counterpart. Its battery is a mammoth 7,500 mAh, while charging specs remain unchanged (100 W wired, 50 W wireless, 22.5 W reverse). Storage and RAM configurations go up to 12GB/16GB LPDDR5X and 512GB or 1TB.
It also features IP68 (Up to 6 meters for 30 minutes) water/dust resistance, as well as standard flagship connectivity, including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C, and stereo speakers.
All models weigh between 191 g (base 17), 190 g (17 Pro), and 219 g (17 Pro Max). The 17 Pro and Pro Max thickness lies in the range of about 8.0 mm.

What makes the Xiaomi 17 series stand out
The Xiaomi 17 series leans heavily into a few flagship trends while trying to push boundaries:
- The introduction of a secondary back-display (on Pro and Pro Max) for glanceable info, selfie preview, and even playful AI customization is a standout novelty.
- The battery capacities are class-leading, especially on the base and Max models, paired with fast wired and wireless charging.
- Xiaomi 17 series close collaboration with Leica for camera tuning, along with high-end sensor hardware and improved telephoto optics, signals its intent to compete with industry leaders.
- The choice of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and inclusion of Wi-Fi 7, USB Type-C, and hyper-connectivity features underscores Xiaomi’s move toward future-proofing.
With the Xiaomi 17 series, Xiaomi has clearly aimed for a bold statement in 2025’s flagship space. Whether global markets will see all three models (or only select ones) remains to be seen. The price points are premium yet competitive compared to rivals, and the feature set suggests Xiaomi intends to lock horns with the likes of Apple and Samsung at the top end.
