The Vivo S60 series is open for pre-bookings in China this May. The lineup includes the standard S60 and a smaller Pro Mini model. This launch offers a preview of what global markets will receive as the Vivo V80 series and a new flagship Fan Edition.

Vivo S60 series Specs details

The design of the Vivo S60 series has changed noticeably. Leaks confirm a new horizontal camera module on the back, moving away from the vertical setup seen on the older S50 lineup. Buyers will also notice a premium metal middle frame and dual IP68 and IP69 ratings. This matches the durability standards recently introduced in the Indian V70 FE, which provides better protection against water and dust.

A key addition is support for magnetic accessories. This system resembles Apple’s MagSafe technology. It gives Android users an easy way to attach wireless power banks and snap-on cases.

Both the standard model and the Pro Mini are expected to have a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, this is a size increase for the Pro Mini variant.

The previous S50 Pro Mini had a compact 6.31-inch LTPO screen. Moving to a larger display suggests the brand is standardizing sizes across the Vivo S60 series to simplify manufacturing. This change reduces the compact appeal of the previous Mini generation.

The processing hardware shows an interesting strategy. The standard model in the Vivo S60 series will likely use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. The standard S50 used the same chipset last year, and the current Indian V70 Elite also features it.

More surprisingly, the previous S50 Pro Mini had a much more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip. If the new Pro Mini shares the 8s Gen 3 with its standard version, it would represent a significant downgrade in processing power. This suggests a move toward power efficiency over raw performance.

While the chip choice may raise questions, the battery capacity has received a big boost. The new lineup includes a 7,000mAh cell, a notable 500mAh increase over the 6,500mAh batteries in the S50 and standard V70 models, though it matches the recent V70 FE. Charging speeds stay the same at 90W for wired charging, consistent with previous models.

The camera hardware on the Vivo S60 series is being upgraded for long-range photography. The setup includes a 50MP primary sensor paired with a new Sony IMX8-series periscope telephoto lens. The earlier standard S50 only had a basic ultra-wide lens with its main shooter. Adding a periscope zoom is a big win for mobile photographers.

Market Positioning and Pricing Strategy

While official Chinese pricing is not yet available, historical data gives us a good idea. The previous standard S50 launched at 2,999 Yuan, or about ₹35,000. The S50 Pro Mini started higher at 3,699 Yuan, around ₹43,200. Given the unchanged processor but improved battery, prices for the Vivo S60 series are expected to stay the same.

In India, the standard Chinese model will rebrand as the Vivo V80 series. For context, the older V50 5G currently sells for ₹32,999 in India. The new Pro Mini variant is headed in a different direction. Reports suggest this device will launch as a separate flagship, rumored to be the Vivo X500 FE coming in 2027.

The real strength of these upcoming devices lies in their battery life and zoom capabilities rather than processing upgrades. Reusing older Snapdragon chipsets might disappoint gamers seeking performance improvements. However, pairing a large 7,000mAh battery with a periscope lens makes this a very practical choice for media users.

Those looking for a true compact flagship may be let down by the Pro Mini’s bigger screen size and possible processor downgrade. The market focus seems to be on battery life and utility. Buyers who value endurance and modern magnetic accessories should definitely consider waiting for the Vivo S60 series.
