  • The Realme P4R has been officially teased on a dedicated Flipkart microsite.
  • This is the seventh model in the P4 lineup and the very first 'R' variant.
  • The phone will launch with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.

Realme has started the teaser campaign for the Realme P4R launch on a special Flipkart microsite. This smartphone joins the already popular P4 series as its seventh member and is expected to launch in the first week of June. The ‘R’ in its name suggests a strong focus on specialized hardware, introducing a new naming style to a crowded mid-range market.

The Realme P4 Lite is the entry model at Rs 13,999, while the Realme P4x is priced at Rs 22,449. The upcoming Realme P4R is expected to be priced slightly above the P4x, placing it in a competitive and uncertain price range.

Flooding the market with various options can be a risky strategy for the brand. It offers specific choices for different budgets but also leads to significant buyer confusion. The company is likely testing whether a focus on particular features can support another model in stores. Realme aims to dominate every Rs 2,000 price point to outpace its competitors.

The Massive P-Series Family

Before discussing the Realme P4R features, it’s important to understand the extensive family it’s joining. The lineup includes the premium Realme P4 Pro, the Realme P4x, and the standard Realme P4 Lite, which comes in both 4G and 5G versions. There is also the specialized Realme P4 Power, designed for endurance with a remarkable 10,001mAh battery. Rumors suggest a Realme P4s could also launch next month.

Realme P4R storage & colour

The new Realme P4R, with the model number RMX5266, will be the first ‘R’ edition in this large series. It will come in three memory configurations: a base model with 4GB + 128GB, a mid-tier model with 6GB + 128GB, and a top version with 6GB + 256GB. Buyers will have three vibrant color options: Silver Glare, Titanium Glare, and Lavender Glare.

It is surprising to see a 4GB RAM model priced above Rs 22,000. I think this is a significant mistake unless the storage speeds and virtual RAM optimizations are exceptional. Otherwise, 4GB of RAM might struggle with intense multitasking. The ‘R’ branding could suggest a focus on a specific area like the battery or camera, much like how the P4 Power is all about battery life.

To gauge the Realme P4R specs, look at its predecessor, the Realme P4 5G. That model set high standards with its 6.77-inch HyperGlow AMOLED display, offering a fast 144Hz refresh rate and an impressive 4500 nits peak brightness. It runs on the refined Android 15 software with realme UI 6.0 straight out of the box.

Realme P4R performance

The Realme P4 5G is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultra processor, which focuses on energy efficiency and dependable mid-range gaming. It features a 7000mAh Titan battery with an 80W Ultra Charge system. For photography, it uses a 50MP main lens with Optical Image Stabilisation and a standard 16MP selfie camera.

For the new Realme P4R to succeed in sales, it either needs a better processor or a significant upgrade in camera software. Anything less than a 7000mAh battery or the Dimensity 7400 Ultra would be a noticeable downgrade. Keep an eye on the hardware details when they are revealed in early June.

If you own an older mid-range smartphone, this launch might be a good upgrade option if the price is reasonable. However, if the price approaches Rs 25,000 while offering only 4GB of base RAM, I suggest skipping it. You’ll likely be better off with the Realme P4 Pro or waiting for the rumored P4s. The true value of this new phone will depend on what the ‘R’ stands for. I truly hope it signifies ‘Revolution’ rather than just ‘Repackaged’ with a different back design.
