The global Poco F9 series launches on September 1. Following several months of leaks, Poco has now confirmed that two new top-end devices are arriving: the Poco F9 Pro and the Poco F9 Ultra. Once again, in this year’s lineup, the brand is omitting the usual entry-level model and is instead focusing on higher-end hardware.

The Poco F9 series is, in fact, rebranded models of the Redmi K100 Pro and Redmi K100 Pro Max, which have recently been launched in China; the upcoming launch of the Poco F9 series is intended for international customers and aims to provide them with extremely large batteries and pure silicon power.

Next-Gen Display Technology and 185Hz Gaming Speeds

A high-quality screen is one of the key features of this year’s Poco F9 series. The Poco F9 Pro is fitted with a 6.59-inch QHD+ plastic OLED display which supports an extremely fast 185Hz refresh rate. When put to everyday use, this high refresh rate results in smoother scrolling and quicker response times when playing competitive games.

The Poco F9 Ultra has a 6.85-inch screen with a resolution of 2608 × 1200. Both display panels were developed in conjunction with TCL CSOT, with Xiaomi taking a direct role in the design and the choice of panel materials. The thinner bezels, together with the durable Plastic OLED substrate, make for bright pictures and good protection against ordinary drops.

Next-Gen Processing and Multi-Day Battery Life

The Poco F9 series launch features the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor in both models. Consumers can set each device to have up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. This hardware setup is capable of running demanding 3D games and handling heavy multitasking without any noticeable frame drops or stutters.

Both devices see a major advance in terms of power delivery. The Poco F9 Pro is fitted with a big 6,330mAh battery, whereas the Poco F9 Ultra has an extremely large 8,050mAh battery. The two phones both support 100W wired fast charging together with universal USB PD protocols, which means that you can charge them quickly using ordinary laptop and tablet chargers.

What to Expect From the Cameras and Durability

Camera equipment has also undergone significant changes in various areas. The Poco F9 Pro is fitted with a 50MP main camera incorporating optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP 3x telephoto camera with optical image stabilization. If mobile photographers need a longer reach, then the Poco F9 Ultra is upgraded to feature a 50MP main sensor, a sharper 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto camera.

Both handsets have 32MP front-facing self-portrait cameras and are capable of recording videos in crisp 8K quality. Apart from the camera specifications, the range includes durable metal frames, Bose-tuned stereo speakers, and top-level IP69 dust and water resistance. The F9 Ultra also has a special LED notification ring located around the camera area to inform users of incoming calls and messages.

The hardware improvements also place the devices in a more expensive price range. The base model of the Poco F9 Pro is expected to start at $920 (approximately ₹88,108) for the version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The high-end Poco F9 Ultra will begin at $1,150 (approximately ₹110,000) for the variant featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The launch of the Poco F9 series represents a definite shift away from having to make compromises at the budget level. For people who are only interested in pure processing power, the current flagship phones are still more than capable. However, if you do want class-leading 8,050mAh battery life, complete IP69 water resistance, and 185Hz display refresh rates, then the new Poco F9 series provides a substantial hardware improvement that is worth taking into consideration.
